Women's Basketball: The Phoenix victorious over the Ravens

The Wilson College women’s basketball team attended Rosemont College for the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Phoenix reign supreme over the Ravens with a 61-44 victory. That has them locked in for the number four seed in the upcoming tournament.

What Happened

Both teams started off shooting well and the score was tied at 10-10 just past the midway point of the first quarter. The Phoenix closed out the opening quarter on a 6-0 run that featured four made free throws by junior Naomi Hanton and a jumper by classmate Amanda Smida . A 7-2 run to open the second quarter pushed the Phoenix lead to 25-14. Hanton started the run with an old fashioned three-point play and senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai followed with a pair of buckets.

Junior Samira Murphy  closed out the run with a jumper assisted by junior Yaya Cannon . Over the final five minutes of the half, the Phoenix grew their lead to 17 points to take a commanding 35-18 lead into the intermission. A quick 8-2 run by the Ravens to open the second half, pulled the hosts within 11 points at 37-26, however the Phoenix answered with an 8-2 run of their own, capped off by a layup by senior Baylen Snyder to push the lead back up to 17.

The Phoenix closed out the third quarter with a long triple from Smida and led 54-34 heading to the final period. The Phoenix grabbed their largest lead of the game at 24 points early in fourth period and cruised to a dominate 61-44 victory.

Posiulai led the way with a 15 point effort, while Hanton and Murphy joined her in double digits with 13 and 12 points respectively. The Phoenix held a huge 22-4 edge in points off turnovers and had a commanding 36-16 advantage in points in the paint.
