Three Mont Alto ballplayers recognized
Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference recognized three Penn State Mont Alto ballplayers this week for their achievements on the field in competitions last week.
Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week by the league office after a productive weekend in the pitching circle.
Dell, a freshman, worked 13 innings, while having just a 1.08 ERA. She was nearly untouchable in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny; and Allegheny’s lone run was unearned. Dell racked up 10 strikeouts along the way.
Baseball off to a good start
Penn State Mont Alto’s baseball program is off to a 5-1 overall start and are 3-1 in the PSUAC West. Garlin, a freshman, has quickly established himself in the Mont Alto pitching rotation. He made two appearances this past week racking up 12 strikeouts along the way. He was nearly unhittable on the mound in Sunday’s start against DuBois; striking out a career-high nine batters, while scattering just two hits across six innings of work.
McClure has been a staple atop the Mont Alto’s batting lineup these past few seasons and he is off to a hot start to the 2021 season. He went up against outstanding pitching this weekend against PSU DuBois. Against returning PSUAC Pitcher of the Year, Brandon Osrich he put together a 2-for-3 performance with a double and two RBIs. Overall, for the week McClure slashed .533 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Mont Alto returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when it hosts Penn State Fayette for a home doubleheader.
Penn State Mont Alto is off to a great start to its 2021 season with a 3-1 overall record and 2-0 in the PSUAC West Division. The Nittany Lions return to action on Wednesday with a conference doubleheader slated against PSU New Kensington.
