Trojan Walk Fundraiser to Support CASD Special Education Students

The Chambersburg Area School District is raising money through the Trojan Walk to support more than 1,500 special education students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Donations will directly benefit special education programs across the district. Funds may support sensory modulation areas and tools, community outreach and experiences, and career and transition exploration. The district said donations will not replace district-funded purchases.

As part of the fundraiser, the district will hold a Tundra Tank Challenge on Oct. 1. Four “Ice Block” participants will be paired with four “Ice Cube Sidekicks,” with donations made to either participant counting toward the pair’s total.

When a pair raises $500, the Ice Cube Sidekick will enter the Tundra Tank. At $1,000, the Ice Block participant will take the plunge.

The Ice Block participants are CASD Superintendent Christopher Bigger, CASHS Principal Rodney Brenize, CASD Board Member Michael Hayduk and CASD Director Drew Nelson.

The Ice Cube Sidekicks are CASHS special education teacher Ian Jacobs, CASHS Assistant Principal Steve McNew, CASD Athletic Director Shawn Kimple and Supervisor of Special Education Samantha Bennett.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
