WASD graduating seniors will shine
Waynesboro Area Senior High School (WASD)’s graduating seniors will shine this week when they finally celebrate with a formal, if altered, graduation.
The school district will hold two ceremonies — one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday — in the WASD auditorium. They will run from 3-8 p.m. both evenings.
Graduates can bring up to four guests with them and they only will attendoneceremony, not both.
The ceremony ritual won’t change, but adjusted instead to meet Coronavirus social distancing protocols. Graduates will walk across the stage to receive their diploma and have their picture taken. Another photo-op will happen off stage.
Graduates will receive an envelope with their final high school documents before leaving the auditorium with their guests.
There will be no seating. Instead, the stage presentation will focus on the individual graduate and their guests. Guests can stand in front of the auditorium stage during the ceremony. They can take pictures of their graduate receiving their diploma.
“Even though we highly recommend masks to be worn, we are not going to keep graduates from walking if they do not wear a mask on the stage or for pictures,” said WASHS Principal Steven Pappas.
The ceremonies will be live-streamed on the WASD website.
