Police log: Waynesboro woman injured in weekend crash

A Waynesboro woman was flown by medical helicopter to Altoona Hospital after her Harley Davison motorcycle crashed head-on with a truck on Spring Run Road yesterday afternoon.

Lilia L. Castillo, 58, Waynesboro, was northbound on Spring Run Road about a mile south of Dry Run Road in Fannett Township at 2:13 p.m. when the crash happened, Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said.

The motorcycle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Barry R. Dunlap, 66, of Shippensburg.

Dunlap and his passenger, Shirley Dunlap, 66, escaped injury.

Castillo had suspected major injuries, police said. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Shippensburg Emergency Medical Services treated Castillo at the scene while awaiting the arrival of the medical helicopter for the fly-out.

Police also reported a motorcycle crash with a Freightliner truck at 10:54 a.m. Thursday in Peters Township. A Chambersburg man had fairly minor injuries as a result of that crash.

Andrew B. Coffman, 30, was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

That crash happened when a Freightliner truck driven by Joseph Stopyra, 43, Chambersburg, pulled out in front of Coffman’s Harley Davison motorcycle, police said. Coffman swerved but was unable to avoid a collision with the truck. The right side of the motorcycle hit the front of the truck. Coffman was wearing a helmet, police said.

Coffman was southbound on Mercersburg Road at its intersection with Lamar Road.

Stopyra had stopped at a flashing red light on Lamar Road, then began pulling onto Mercersburg Road. Police cited him for failure to obey a traffic control device.

St . Thomas Volunteer Fire and Rescue assisted police at the crash scene.
