Mr. William E “Barry” Brake Jr., 90, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Tuesday evening, September 13, 2022, in the York Hospital, York, PA.

Born February 16, 1932 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late William E. Brake, Sr. and Margaret E. (Patterson) Sheffler. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.

Barry worked at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro as an inspector. He retired in 1997 after more than 40 years of service with the company. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at Frick Company, Waynesboro.

He was a life member of A.T.H.&L. Fire Hall, Waynesboro and a life member of The Owl’s Club, Waynesboro. He also attended services at Five Forks Church, Waynesboro and was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro.

Barry enjoyed attending all local sporting events and spending time with his family.

He is survived by four sons, Geary L. Brake (Karen) of Toledo, OH, Allen E. Brake of Waynesboro, Larry E. Brake of Robertsdale, PA, and Ricky L. Brake (Angie) of Waynesboro, PA; four step-children, David E. Cook (Dena) of Waynesboro, William A. Cook (Kim) of Hagerstown, MD, Tina L. Sellers (David) of Tavares, FL, and Sherry L. Witmer (Kevin) of Mont Alto; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Mae (Smith) Brake on April 8, 1967; his second wife, Shirley Ann (Lewis) Brake on May 11, 2011; his step-son, Scott A. Cook; and his sister, Frances Oberry.

A public viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Private graveside services will be held in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro at the convenience of the family.
