Wilson baseball second in coaches’ poll

Wilson College’s baseball team was picked second in the 2021 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) baseball preseason coaches’ poll released Monday. The Phoenix, who finished third during their inaugural season in 2019, received 42 points and one first-place vote. 

The Keystone College baseball team was the top pick of the coaches. The Giants, who have captured the last ten CSAC championships dating back to the 2009 season, received 48 points and six of the seven first-place votes.

Cairn University, which advanced to the CSAC championship series in 2019, received 35 points good enough for third place.

Centenary University was fourth with 25 points. Saint Elizabeth University was in fifth place with 23 points, Clarks Summit University in sixth with 12 points and The University of Valley Forge in seventh place with 11 points.

Conference play – which will be a two-game series this year – starts this Saturday, March 20. The matchups scheduled for week one of conference play are Saint Elizabeth at Centenary, Valley Forge at Cairn and Wilson at Keystone

The 2021 CSAC Championship starts May 7 with a best-of-three series. It will feature the top four teams.

The top seed will host the fourth seed, while the second seed hosts the third seed. 

The championship series will also be a best-of-three competition. It begins May 14 with the previous weekend’s winners at the highest remaining seed.

3. Cairn University – 35 points
4. Centenary University – 25 points
5. Saint Elizabeth University – 23 points

7. University of Valley Forge – 11 points

Meanwhile, the Phoenix take on the Defenders of Clarks Summit University at Henninger Field in a doubleheader today. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Spectators will not be permitted at the games, per a new rule announced this week by the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
