FRANKLIN COUNTY (March 1) – With spring now only three weeks away, Old Man Winter is not yet ready to loosen his grip on South-central Pennsylvania.
Not only is there the potential for significant winter weather tonight that may impact travel tomorrow, the National Weather Service is now predicting another major winter storm Sunday night.
A winter weather advisory is in effect through 7 a.m. tomorrow, with NWS calling for an overnight mixed bag of precipitation, including another one to three inches of snow, topped by a light glazing of ice by morning.
Residents will likely face a bigger problem as a result of a second storm overnight Sunday that is expected to dump additional snow accumulations of four to six inches of snow, just in time for their Monday morning commute to work and school.
That storm will be the result of a low pressure system over the Lower Mississippi Valley early Sunday morning that is expected to move quickly northeast.
The storm track will bring snow of varying intensity to much of Central Pennsylvania and the Susquehanna Valley.
While tonight’s snow probably won’t hold a candle to the heavier snowfall predicted for Sunday, it should delight weekend snow sports enthusiasts, whether they are snow for builders, sledders or visitors to nearby ski resorts.
Not so much for municipal road crews responsible lo e for removing the snow and ice from the roads, or those who have to be out on the roads Saturday morning.
