Cumberland County road work: Work hours adjusted on I81 project
Adjusted work hours for a 12.3-mile resurfacing project on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County include six nights a week, starting two hours later than the previous schedule. New hours run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday, according to PennDOT.
The contractor has been working weekly throughout the project limits from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights.
The schedule includes lane closures not to exceed four miles in length during work hours. The change is the result of increased traffic volumes in the early evening hours, PennDOT said.
The work is a pavement preservation project. It includes milling, resurfacing, base repairs, concrete patching, guiderail upgrades, pavement markings, and minor bridge work on I-81 in Southampton, Shippensburg, South Newton, and Penn townships.
The work limits are from the Franklin County Line in Shippensburg Township to the Kutz Road bridge in Penn Township. Work is expected to be completed by October 2022.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., is the prime contractor on this $26.48 million project.
