Zeigler, Bruno and Yoder Earn Victories at Port Royal Speedway

Mason Zeigler, Christian Bruno and Andrew Yoder earned feature victories Saturday during the opening night of racing at the 172nd Juniata County Fair at Port Royal Speedway.

Zeigler led all 33 laps of the Butch Renninger Memorial for the Penske Racing Shocks super late models, earning $7,333 and his second career victory in the event.

Starting second beside Hayes Mattern, Zeigler took the lead on the opening lap. Mattern remained in second throughout the race and challenged Zeigler near the midpoint, but Zeigler maintained the lead through traffic and open-track conditions.

Mattern finished second, followed by Justin Weaver, Matt Cosner and Rick Eckert.

Trever Feathers secured his first Port Royal Speedway track championship after finishing seventh. Gregg Satterlee placed sixth, leaving the drivers tied in the season standings. Feathers won the tiebreaker after recording two victories during the season compared with Satterlee’s one.

In the 25-lap USAC East Coast Sprint Car feature, Christian Bruno took the lead and finished ahead of Chris Allen Jr. and Kenny Miller III. The victory was Bruno’s fifth on a half-mile track with the series this season. Allen started eighth, while Miller advanced from ninth.

Andrew Yoder led all 25 laps of the limited late model feature to earn his third Butch Renninger Memorial title in the division.

Spike Moore advanced from sixth to second within the opening two laps and challenged Yoder following a restart with two laps remaining. Moore attempted to move inside Yoder during the final turns, but Yoder retained the lead through the finish.

Moore placed second, and DJ Myers finished third.

Port Royal Speedway will host the 75th annual Labor Day Classic and Lynn Paxton Tribute Race on Monday. The event will pay $7,500 to the winner of the Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car feature and will be part of the PA Posse 410 Sprint Car Series schedule.

Monday’s program will also include front-wheel-drive four-cylinder racing and an exhibition by the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
