How It Happened

The Cedar Crest offense put pressure on the Phoenix defense during the opening ten minutes, firing three shots on goal; but freshman Rebecca Marakovitz (New Market, MD, Linganore High School) corralled all 3 attempts to keep the hosts off the board.

Junior Bailey Miller (Charles Town, W.Va., Washington) took the first shot on goal for the Phoenix during the thirteenth minute, but couldn’t connect. Marakovitz tallied two more saves in the first half as both teams headed into the half tied at 0-0.

The two teams traded possessions during the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Each goalkeeper kept their opponents off the scoreboard. During the seventy-fifth minute of action, the Falcons got on the board first when Rebecca Verdi scored with an assist from Adrianna Tennis for the 1-0 lead.

The Phoenix went thirty-one minutes without attempting a shot in the second half. Then freshman Chloe Antalek (Wappingers Falls, NY, Beacon) scored off of a corner kick with ninety seconds left in regulation to send the match to overtime.
