SU women's soccer: Early lead helps defeat Lock Haven

An early lead by the Shippensburg University women’s soccer team meant defeat for Lock Haven Wednesday night, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Shippensburg (2-3-2, 2-2-2 PSAC East) led the way in the first half with a goal from senior Skylar Lambert (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) just twominutes into the game.

Senior Alexis Worley handled a loose ball outside the box and hit the top right corner of the net for a goal, advancing the Raider lead with under 10 minutes to play in the first half.

The Raiders’ only two shots on goal were enough for a 2-0 advantage heading into the second half.

Lock Haven (3-4-1, 1-4-1) looked to make a comeback at the 58:22 mark with a goal from Avery Landrum, cutting the lead.

Although the Bald Eagles outshot the Raiders 9-3, with six shots on goal, the two shots on goal the entire game for the Raiders were enough to secure the road win.

Junior goalkeeper Kendra Barlow (Painesville, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) tallied five saves in her second start in goal this season.

The Raiders are back on the road Saturday at 8 p.m. at Bloomsburg for another PSAC East matchup.
