Harry Kershaw’s first collegiate goal was the lone tally in a soccer match between Shippensburg’s Raiders and West Virginia’s Alderson Broaddus Battlers in a non-conference game in Philippi, W. Va.
The Raiders picked up its second victory of the season Saturday with a 1-0 win at Multi-Sport Performance Stadium, thanks to Kershaw’s lone goal.
Shippensburg (2-2-2) got the match’s lone tally in the 52nd minute. Senior Kershaw (Wardle, England/Wardle Academy) headed home the rebound of his initial shot for his first collegiate goal.
Alderson Broaddus (2-5-0) finished with a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal . They could not find the back of the net, however. SU freshmen goalkeeper Ryan Glenlast (Lancaster, Pa./Pequea Valley) made five saves to pick up a shutout in his first collegiate match.
The match featured six yellow cards and one red card committed by the host Battlers. Overall, there were nine cards issued.
It was the first match between these schools since 2014.
Shippensburg resumes Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at East Stroudsburg.
