Local basketball player Destiny Johnson is the PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, given the title Monday by the league office.
Shippensburg University senior Jefferson (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton (West Chester)) posted a pair of 20-point games in a 2-1 week for the Raiders
Jefferson totaled 49 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, eight steals and two blocks in a 2-1 week for the Raiders.
In a Tuesday Road win at Clarion, Jefferson led the Raiders with 21 points. Her 13 first-half points equaled Clarion’s team point total at halftime. Jefferson made her first eight attempts at the free-throw line and finished the night 8-of-10. She also led the team with five assists and four steals.
In a Saturday road win at Pitt-Johnstown, Jefferson led the Raiders with 23 points, marking her fourth consecutive game of 20 or more points this season and her sixth this season. Jefferson was 6-of-9 from the free-throw line and led the team with three steals. She also recorded one of her two blocks in the game with 22 seconds remaining.
Jefferson played just nine minutes in Sunday’s game at IUP, totaling five points and a steal before her exit.
It is the third PSAC weekly award of Jefferson’s career and her second as a Raider.
She is the second local Raider to get the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week award this season, accompanying sophomore Treasure George (Nov. 29). Junior Lauren Pettis has twice been named the PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week this season (Nov. 15, Nov. 29).
