Missing woman Is home, safe
A 67-year-old Guilford Township woman missing since Thursday is back home and safe, according to police and a relative.
A search for 57-year-old Bertha Payne was called off Saturday morning after Payne returned home on her own. Payne came home at about 7 a.m. today, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.
That’s about the time searchers were getting ready to start looking for her again today.
Emergency medical personnel examined her and found her to be in good health, according to Trooper Megan Ammerman, Troop H public information officer. She was taken to Chambersburg Hospital for a precautionary evaluation.
Volunteer groups joined searchers, search and rescue dogs and helicopters from state, county and local agencies to search for Payne after her husband reported her missing Thursday afternoon.
“Police and the Payne family are thankful for everybody involved in the search efforts,” Ammerman said. “(They) were extremely diligent during this time of need.
Payne was reported missing by her husband at about 5 p.m Thursday. Police said she was last seen at around 3 that afternoon and was believed to be on foot.
