Shippensburg University sports: SU Raiders fall to Marauders

The SU Raiders women’s soccer team lost 3-2 Wednesday in a rematch against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent Millersville at David See Field.

Shippensburg (4-8-1, 4-6-1 PSAC East) fell behind two goals but got one back in the 35th minute when senior K.K. O’Donnell (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) scored off a deep shot outside of the box. It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

After a second half Marauder goal, the Raiders responded in the 74th minute with the first goal of the season by senior Julia Dalton (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) off O’Donnell’s assist.

Millersville (5-4-3, 5-4-2) used a strong start to gain the early momentum. In the 11th minute, Savannah Rennix scored off a cross by Emma Elwell. Rennix scored again four minutes later, this time off a Cassie Blyth assist as a result of a blocked shot.

In the second half, Blyth scored on a free kick in the 64th minute to extend the lead. The goal proved to be the eventual game winner.

Sophomore Kendra Barlow (Painesville, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) made seven saves for Shippensburg, while Reagan Kolinski made five saves for Millersville. Shots on goal were 10-7 in MU’s favor.

The SU Lady Raiders hosts No. 3 Kutztown at 2 p.m. Saturday at David See Field.
